All About E-mail
E-mail Virus Filtering
The most common way
your computer can become infected with viruses is via e-mail by opening
an infected file that is sent as an attachment. You may have heard
of some of the most destructive viruses, such as Nimda, Klez, SirCam,
and Melissa that disabled computers in this way.
AT&T
Worldnet Service now combats the threat of e-mail viruses with anti-virus
protection based on Symantec's Norton AntiVirus technology. E-mail
Virus Filtering detects suspected viruses and cleans them before they
ever reach your AT&T Worldnet Service mailbox. If the suspected
virus cannot be cleaned, the e-mail containing it is deleted.
Please
read the E-mail Virus Filtering
FAQ for more details about these harmful computer threats,
including viruses, worms, and Trojan horses, and our powerful anti-virus
technology.
For
information about the newest viruses circulating today, visit Symantec's
Anti-virus Center. If you suspect your computer is infected
with a virus and you're using a retail version of Norton Anti-virus
software, visit Symantec's
Security Update site and follow the instructions.
E-mail
Virus Filtering will be automatically enabled on primary AT&T
Worldnet accounts and their secondary e-mail Ids. If you wish to disable
this feature, simply go to Member
Services, login in with your username and password, and then
choose "Turn E-mail Virus Filtering OFF."
Please
be advised that E-mail Virus Filtering is a powerful tool, but no
anti-virus software is 100% effective. Be sure to take necessary precautions
to safeguard your computer from any viruses that happen to get through
our virus filter, as well as viruses spread through methods other
than e-mail. It's important to have anti-virus software installed
on your computer from a well-known, reputable company and to update
it regularly.
