Spam Blocker FAQs

    What is Spam Blocker?
Spam Blocker is a comprehensive anti-spam feature that automatically stops suspected unsolicited e-mail (spam) from reaching your mailbox. Using Brightmail™ a software technology, it detects suspected unsolicited e-mail, and based on your selection during registration for this feature, will either hold messages for three days in the Screened Mail Folder found at the AT&T Message Center or DELETE THEM IMMEDIATELY.

Can I use the Spam Blocker feature on all my e-mail IDs?
Yes, the Spam Blocker feature is available to master account owners as well as on secondary e-mail IDs.

How do I activate Spam Blocker?
Spam Blocker is easy to activate using the AT&T Worldnet Service Member Services.
Here are the steps to sign-up:

How does Spam Blocker get activated for additional e-mail IDs?
Primary account owners can activate Spam Blocker for their additional e-mail IDs by following these steps:
  • Go to https://memberservices.att.net/msws/EmailScreener
  • Login with your username and password.
  • Choose the Link "Member Administration"
  • Click on the "Spam Blocker: off" link for the ID for which you want to activate Spam Blocker
  • Click on "Turn Spam Blocker ON"
Will I have an opportunity to review messages if I select the "Delete it immediately" option?
NO. You will not have the opportunity to review these e-mails nor can deleted messages be retrieved. If you think you might want some of this e-mail, consider the "Hold for Review" option until you are comfortable with how well the Spam Blocker is meeting your needs. Note: Neither AT&T nor Brightmail, Inc. guarantee the performance of the software with respect to e-mail you did not intend to delete.

Where do I view and/or delete unsolicited mail that was sent to me?
Members who select the "Hold for Review" option can view suspected unsolicited mail in their Screened Mail Folder on the AT&T Message Center (http://webmail.att.net) to ensure that it does not contain any mail that you would like to keep. If you are using a different e-mail client, other than the AT&T Message Center to view your regular mail, just log into the AT&T Message Center periodically to review your Screened Mail Folder.

How do I view/delete mail on the AT&T Message Center held in my Screened Mail Folder?
Go to the AT&T Message Center (http://webmail.att.net). Use the folder drop-down box and choose "Screened Mail" and then Click the Open button to view the message list.

How long will the unsolicited mail remain in the Screened Mail Folder?
Messages older than three days will be deleted from your Screened Mail Folder. Note: Messages in your Screened Mail Folder will count towards the 10-megabyte storage limit for this mailbox.

What if the Spam Blocker system accidentally catches "real" e-mail (non-spam)?
E-mail suspected to be unsolicited that is delivered to your Screened Mail Folder is available for your review for three days. If the Spam Blocker accidentally catches a "real" message then you can move the "real" message to your "Inbox" by clicking the box next to the message, choosing the "Inbox" on the folder drop-down box and clicking the move checked button. If you wish, you may forward any e-mail or the e-mail header(s) that should not have been delivered to your Screened Mail Folder to this-is-not-spam@worldnet.att.net. By doing so, you will help us improve the system and avoid future mis-categorizations.

What if I still get unsolicited e-mail after activating the Spam Blocker?
Should you receive a spam message that was not captured in the Spam Blocker, please forward the e-mail in its entirety (headers and body) to: missed-spam@worldnet.att.net and a filter will be created for it. By doing so, you will help us improve the system and avoid future mis-categorizations.

Will anyone read my e-mail as part of the Spam Blocker system?
No. Only software is used to evaluate the headers (routing information) and body (contents) of e-mail to determine whether or not it is spam.

Can I still automatically forward my e-mail to another address and use the Spam Blocker feature?
E-mail that is automatically forwarded to another account will not be screened. All your e-mail, including "unsolicited e-mail" will be forwarded. However, if you selected Forward "with a local copy" when activating E-mail Forwarding, the e-mail in your AT&T Worldnet mailbox will be screened.

I just signed-up for the Spam Blocker and I don't see a Screened Mail folder in the AT&T Message Center, what's wrong?
The folder is created when the first piece of suspected spam is screened. You will see a folder drop-down box on the Message list page of the AT&T Message Center. Choose, "Screened mail" and then click "Open."
